Presentation Sponsored by Deschutes Economic Alliance Shows The Way
Bend, OR -- How does Oregon compare to the rest of the nation on the road to recovery from the current recession and what can be done to jumpstart these efforts?
The answers to these questions will be presented by Delore Zimmerman, Ph. D., in a presentation sponsored by the Deschutes Economic Alliance (DEA) on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at the Riverhouse Hotel and Convention Center Ballroon in Bend. Everyone interested in the economic future of Central Oregon is invited to attend at no charge.
Zimmerman, President of the Praxis Strategy Group, will discuss the findings of a 2011 study commissioned by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce he coauthored with internationally renowned economist Joel Kotkin titled “Enterprising States: Recovery and Renewal for the 21st Century”.
“The study shows how states are finding success in attracting and growing business by redesigning government, curbing spending, modernizing the tax system and eliminating onerous regulations amidst dire budget situations and high unemployment,” Zimmerman says.
Zimmerman will also discuss “where Oregon leads and lags amongst the 50 states in its recovery efforts and how local communities and regions can use the findings of the study to advance their own economic development”.
“All business-minded, future-oriented Central Oregonians are fortunate to have this opportunity to tap into Delore Zimmerman’s most recent research into what is working, and what is not, as states across the country struggle to cope with the recession,” says Dave Lewis, DEA Co-Chair. “The DEA hopes this presentation will help further its goal to make the boom and bust economic cycles typical of Central Oregon a thing of the past.”
DEA is an all-volunteer non-governmental group of 100 business and community leaders formed in 2010 to identify and help launch initiatives to help stabilize and grow the region’s economy. The presentation implements part of the “1000 Day Roadmap to Regional Transformation and Economic Vitality” Zimmerman and DEA discussed with 350 community leaders at the Riverhouse Hotel and Convention Center last January.
